New Hampshire Ski Update: Loon & Black Mountain Open — Wildcat and Attitash Still Waiting

Winter is kicking into gear across New Hampshire, and ski season updates are coming fast. While some mountains are already spinning lifts for early-season turns, others are still holding out for the right weather window.

Loon & Black Mountain Are Open

Two of the Granite State’s most accessible and fan-favorite ski areas — Loon Mountain and Black Mountain — are officially open for the season. Both mountains launched operations this week despite having lower base elevations than some of their northern competitors, giving skiers and riders their first real taste of winter.

Early reports show solid man-made coverage, light crowds, and plenty of buzz for the season ahead. Loon continues to lead southern NH with strong snowmaking, while Black Mountain delivers that classic, old-school ski vibe for locals and weekenders alike.

Wildcat & Attitash Still Await Opening Dates

Up north, Wildcat Mountain, one of the tallest ski area base elevations in the state, is still without an opening date. Even being only about 20 feet shy of the highest ski area base in New Hampshire hasn’t helped — temperatures and natural snowfall just haven’t lined up yet.

Attitash, also Vail-owned, is similarly holding off until conditions improve. Both mountains are expected to open once snowmaking weather stabilizes, but for now, early-season riders are heading to the open resorts.
