Presidents Day + Ski Buzz = Still Plenty to Do in New England

It’s Monday, Presidents Day, which usually means a bit of a reset after the busy Valentine’s week. Valentine’s Day can slow down bachelor party bookings this time of year — couples take over most of the weekend plans — but winter in New England still has life in it, especially on the slopes.

We’re scrolling the mountain reports this morning and saw something worth calling out: Crotched Mountain Ski & Ride is showing up as fully open and getting good coverage. Snow reports from earlier this week indicate they had almost every trail open (about 25 of 25, nearly 100% open), solid base depths and decent machine-groomed conditions.

Where Is Crotched?

For folks who aren’t familiar:

  • Crotched Mountain is a ski area in southern New Hampshire, straddling the towns of Bennington and Francestown.
  • It’s about a 1¾-2 hour drive from the greater Boston area — shorter from Manchester, NH — making it a good choice for a day trip or weekend winter activity.
  • The resort has about 100 acres of skiable terrain, 25 trails, and a good mix of beginner to steep runs, plus one of the bigger high-speed lifts in the region.

Why Ski Reports Still Matter

Even though Presidents Day weekend crowds are thinning out today, ski hills across New England still have coverage and are open for:

  • Full-day skiing and riding
  • Night sessions (Crotched even runs late nights on some weekends)
  • Events and themed ski nights

This can be a fun way for a group to build winter memories — and it’s a perfect off-Valentine’s weekend outing for folks visiting the region before spring really kicks in.

Quick Tip

Snow reports change fast this time of year, so if you’re thinking about a trip up north later this week, check the current conditions before you go. A solid push of cold tonight could keep conditions nice for the rest of the week.
